What To Do If Your Pet Is Lost

  • Go in person to the Yolo County Animal Shelter with pictures and microchipping information.
  • Post "LOST" fliers with large, clear print and a good photograph (color if possible). Post them over a five block area around your house and put them in highly visible places. Plastic sleeves on the flyers can prevent rain damage.
  • Search the neighborhood and ask neighbors to help. Children play outdoors and often notice animals in the area.
  • Place a "LOST" ad in the local newspaper. The Davis Enterprise (530)756-0800 will run a "LOST" pet notice FREE for 3 days.
  • Check the "FOUND" notices in local newspapers. They all have classifieds posted on the internet that you can check daily, free of charge.
  • Notify veterinary clinics in the area that your pet is missing. Someone may bring your pet in injured or as a stray. Ask the clinics if they will post one of your fliers in their office.
  • Use the Yolo Wiki , its free and fun! Scroll down to the FOUND pets area to see if someone has found your animal. Anyone may post digital pictures and text on this website. Click the "New User" button at the top right hand of the page and Login. Once logged in an "Edit" button at the bottom of every page will allow you to add text and pictures to that page.
  • Call us at (530) 662-8858 when you find your pet. We will remove the "LOST" report.
