Our Adoption Process
Yolo County SPCA offers dog and cat adoptions through our successful adoption program. Each year we are able to place hundreds of dogs and cats into caring and safe homes. Check our Adoption Checklist to make sure you are ready for the commitment of owning an animal, then fill out and submit an Adoption Application.
Dog adoption interviews may need to be scheduled at a later date depending on availability of adoption counselors and interviews that have been prescheduled. If you would like to schedule an adoption interview please complete our adoption application and send it in either by fax or email.
Our adoption fee helps us cover the spay/neuter, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age) for all animals. Cats will also be tested for feline leukemia and given their FVRCP vaccinations. Dogs will be tested for heartworm and started on preventatives, as well as given DAPP vaccinations for dogs. An adult cat or dog will have been given all of its vaccinations. A kitten or puppy will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to its age, but the adopter will be responsible for additional vaccinations needed after the adoption.
-You must be at least 18 years old. Be prepared to provide identification.
NOTE: There is a two week "trial period" after an animal is adopted. If, for any reason at all, the animal must be returned to us during the first two weeks after the adoption, we will either fully refund the adoption fee, or help to find a different animal who would be a match for your family.
